Despite a nearly completely new set of personnel to execute two projects in tandem, IPC while managing complex operational challenges on both sites, IPC was able to execute these projects with successful outcomes all while keeping the general contractor and owner, TransCanada, involved and updated on progress and challenges.
IPC only had one 42” thruster so managing logistics of drilling was especially challenging to complete the tight timelines.
This project required IPC to drill with a 400m of 42” sacrificial pipe, pulled 42” pipe out and in the same motion, installed 36” product pipe.
IPC has successfully stretched the limits of the technology of the 42” machine (built for a max rock strength of 100-110mpa) in order to facilitate the needs of TransCanada to complete this installation. As one of the main challenges the max rock strength 227mpa in Canadian Shield geology.
